GET UP AND GO.
JUST DO IT.
Nike coined the phrase but it holds a lot of truth. Some of the first steps out the door are the hardest. One foot in front of the other is all you need to do, but sometimes it feels like there are bricks on those feet and it just isn't happening. Here are some tips to keep you motivated through these last few weeks of winter. You may find it just a little easier to get out there and put in some miles.
RUN WITH PEOPLE.
Running with someone is the ultimate motivator. Having a running buddy or a group to head out with is key. Join the Rhode every Wednesday at 6pm and Sunday at 8am for a run or use our Facebook Group to plan a run with some pals on the off days.
Pick a race in the future to train for, knowing that you have something coming up can be a great motivator. Especially if you've already paid for it!
PREPARE FOR THE WEATHER.
Its cold. Its Dark. So its important to stay safe and warm out there on your run. Check out this video from the Rhode Show on what gear to wear during the winter months. We'll hold an autograph signing after the group run Wednesday. Also tune to the Rhode Show Tuesday morning as I’ll be chatting about Winter running again!
TAKE A RHODE TRIP.
Mix it up. Don't get stuck in the same routine. Head somewhere new, maybe you take a 30 min drive down to Misquamicut and run by the water, maybe you take a trip up to Scituate and crank out a run with some beautiful scenery in the background. Either way mixing it up is a great way to keep yourself motivated.
WINTER RUNNING CAN BE FUN.
The Off Rhode Racing Trail Series is a great example. We sometimes get bogged down with hitting splits, running PRs and beating the next guy at the local 5k. Its great to get off the road, throw the watch away and get down to just having a good time. Think about joining us at the next Off Rhode Race within the next few weeks!
DON'T FORGET WHY YOU DO THIS.
Why do you run? Is it to stay fit? Is it to de-stress? Is it to get out of the house? Is it just to have yourself a good time? Remember why you run and use that as motivation to get out there.
We'll see you on the Rhode.
