Cranston Police & Fire "Hot on Your Heels" 5K

  • Garden City Center Cranston, RI (map)

We are bringing it back!

One of the most successful road races in the City of Cranston returns to the Garden City Shopping center on the morning of Sunday, October 25, 2015. The Cranston Police & Fire Department “Hot on Your Heels 5K” road race steps off at 9:30 AM and is a new take on an old classic. The “Cranston Police 5K” was last held on June 4, 2000, with course that started and finished in the iconic shopping center located in the heart of the City. The race returns to the old course with the promise of cooler temperature and fast times.

This time we are bringing in our partners in public safety – the Cranston Fire Department – to put on a great race for two worthy causes that are very close to home for our citizens: the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation and the Cranston YMCA. The Pagano Family established the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation in memory a gentleman whose life was cut far too short. Jim was a devoted family man, a 17-year veteran of the Cranston Fire Department, a loyal friend to many, and an upstanding individual who was deeply committed to improving the quality of life for the citizens in the local community, especially children. The mission of the Lt. Jim Pagano Foundation is to make charitable grants to individuals, groups and/or organizations that improve the quality of life for children, and foster character building and a strong foundation. The Cranston YMCA has been a longtime supporter of the Cranston Police & Fire Departments and a partner in our goals for a safe Cranston. The mission of the YMCA is to build healthy spirit, mind and body for all, through programs, services and relationships that are based upon the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility for their future.

Entry is now open to the general public. All participants receive a race T-shirt and are invited to enjoy Garden City Shopping Center after the race. Food and hydration drinks will be served after the race, while participants enjoy a DJ and the awards ceremony. Awards will be presented to the overall male and female winners, along with age category winners. Awards will also be presented to the fastest three person team as well as police/fire/military teams. All participants in the kid’s race will receive participation medal.
